All Girls STEAM Expo wants to IGNITE, EXCITE and BUILD!
We want to offer a diverse pool of female professionals in the S.T.E.A.M/S.T.E.M careers to engage with young ladies, 12 to 18 years of age. Young ladies are still not encouraged to be in the world of S.T.E.A.M/S.T.E.M and we need to continue to share and show them that they too can be an inventor, a scientist, an engineer, an astronomer, etc… no matter your ethnicity or gender.
All Girls STEAM Expo wants to ignite the options to various career paths, share the challenges and successes that have allowed female professionals to succeed in their chosen fields. Certain careers may have never crossed the minds of students or have been exposed to them. Bringing female professionals one on one will open the eyes of young ladies to think beyond their surroundings, beyond their expectations and build their brains with curiosity and creativity.
DID YOU KNOW?
By the time students reach college, women are significantly underrepresented in STEM majors — for instance, only around 21% of engineering majors are women and only around 19% of computer and information science majors are women.
Girls have fewer role models to inspire their interest in STEAM/STEM fields, seeing limited examples of female scientists and engineers in books, media and popular culture. There are even fewer role models of Black women in math and science.
