Restorative Justice Teacher - Black Student Achievement Plan
Mr. Ponferrada is originally from the Bay Area and received a B.A. in Asian American Studies from San Francisco State University. In 2007, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his passion to serve young people; earning an M.A. in Education/Secondary English Credential from UCLA, as well as a Preliminary Administrative Credential from Cal State Dominguez Hills.
He joins the Gardena High School family in 2021 as Restorative Justice Teacher under the Black Student Achievement Plan (BSAP). Through restorative practices and a trauma/resilience-informed framework, Mr. Ponferrada prioritizes the wellness of Black students to nurture the social-emotional development of the whole child, whole classroom, whole school, and whole community.
